Glory 39 Set For Brussels With 2 Title Fights

Glory 39

Glory Kickboxing announced today that Glory 39 will take place in Brussels, Belgium on March 25, 2017 at the Forest National.

The main card will be headlined by a welterweight title fight between newly crowned champion Cedric Doumbe and Yoann Kongolo (@YoannKongolo). It will be the third time they fight with Kongolo having won both previous fights.

Kongolo defeated Doumbe in 2014 at Jurafight in Switzerland by unanimous decision and most recently in 2015 at Glory 22 by unanimous decision.

Doumbe became the champion after defeating Nieky Holzken at Glory: Collision this past December. With the win he snapped Hozlken’s 11 fight win streak, and handed him his first loss in the Glory ring. Doumbe has won his last 10 fights, including 2 tournaments.

Kongolo spent the second half of 2016 in the boxing ring, but made his return to Kickboxing this past month at Glory 37 in California. He won the welterweight contender tournament to secure his title shot. It will be Kongolo’s second attempt at capturing Glory gold, he came up short against Nieky Holzken at Glory 29, where he dropped a unanimous decision.

In the Super Fight Series portion of the event, lightweight champion Sittichai Sitsongpeenong will defend his title against France’s Dylan Salvador in a rubber match. The pair split a pair of fights in 2014 and 2015. Sittichai took the first fight by decision at Victory 2 in France and Salvador took the second fight by decision at Kunlun Fight 24 in China.

Sittichai won the title at Glory 31 with a unanimous decision over Robin van Roosmalen. He most recently defended his title at Glory 36 with a decision win over Marat Grigorian.

Salvador earned his title shot by wining the Glory 36 contender tournament with wins over Anatoly Moiseev and Hysni Beqiri. Salvador has long been considered one of the best out of France and has won his last three fights including a win over Sittichai’s stablemate Manaowan.

The main card of Glory 39 will also feature a featherweight tournament, although none of the participants have been confirmed yet. The co-main event will feature heavyweights Jahfarr Wilnis (@JahfarrW) vs. Jamal Ben Saddik (@bensaddikjamal).

Glory 39 will air the main card on ESPN 3 and the Super Fight Series on UFC Fight Pass.
