The highly anticipated bout between UFC superstar Conor McGregor (@TheNotoriousMMA) and Boxing great Floyd Mayweather (@FloydMayweather) seems less likely with each passing day.
Money is the main issue with both sides having completely different thoughts on who deserves what. If the bout between McGregor and Mayweather can’t materialize there is another Boxing great that is willing to step into the ring and welcome McGregor to professional boxing. Manny Pacquiao (@MannyPacquiao) told Fox Sports News 500 that he is willing to fight McGregor in a Boxing match.
This news just adds fuel to the idea of seeing McGregor in the Boxing ring. The two-division UFC champion is one of the biggest draws in sports at the moment and Pacquiao, although a great Boxer, has not had much buzz around his fights since he fought Mayweather in 2015. The biggest headline he has made since that bout was being criticized for comments he made towards the gay community. That really isn’t the type of headline one wants to be involved in.
Pacquiao made it clear in his interview with Fox Sports News 500 that he would only be willing to meet McGregor in the Boxing ring and not in an MMA bout.
“In boxing? In boxing (I would) but not in (UFC), just boxing,” said Pacquiao.
It makes sense, like most sensible people out there he realizes that Boxing and MMA are two completely different animals. He also stated that if McGregor and Mayweather did fight, Floyd would win.
The likely hood of Pacquiao having a Boxing match with Conor McGregor is not likely. Despite the long odds it is nice to see him ready to step up for the challenge. For now Boxing fans can see Manny Pacquiao in action again on April 22, 2017 in Brisbane, Australia. He will be fighting Jeff Horn as he attempts to defend his World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight championship.
