There have been several rumors going around as to who Michael Bisping (@bisping) will defend his UFC middleweight title against next. UFC president Dana White ended the speculation today when he said it will be Yoel Romero (@YoelRomeroMMA).
White made the announcement on the UFC Unfiltered podcast earlier today.
Romero has won 8 consecutive fights since entering the UFC, with six of those being stoppages. He last appeared in the octagon at UFC 205 where he stopped former middleweight champion Chris Weidman with strikes in the third round.
Bisping successfully defended his middleweight title against Dan Henderson at UFC 204 this past October in a five round slugfest. He wont the title from Luke Rockhold by knockout at UFC 199 after filling in on short notice. Bisping is currently recovering from knee surgery he had earlier this week, and there is no set date for his next title defense.
It will be interesting to see if Romero does indeed get the title shot because fighters have been promised title shots in the past and then things change. Since the announcement, Bisping has already taken to social media to call out Romero for a previously failed drug test. The pre-fight banter should get very interesting for this bout.
